The
church of San Jose located at 2401 South Broadway in Albuquerque
has been a center of Catholic life for the faithful of
the South Valley. Beginning in 1916, when the mission
church of San Jose was first built to meet the worship
needs of the growing Barelas area, the parish community
of San Jose has continued to be a vital part of the lives
of Roman Catholics.
Throughout
the decades, generations of Catholic families have celebrated
Catholic life and sacramental milestones at San Jose.
Throughout the 1990’s up to the present, the family
of San Jose parish has enjoyed significant growth –
so much so that the current worship space cannot accommodate
the number of Catholics who weekly seek to pray together
within its walls. The legacy and traditions of San Jose
parish have now been embraced by newly arrived immigrants
who also call this parish their spiritual home.
